MedImmune' s commitment to innovation and enterprise extends beyond our own
company. Through our wholly owned venture capital fund — MedImmune Ventures —
we seek out and support exciting young biotechnology companies.
MedImmune Ventures harnesses its expertise in discovering, developing, and
commercializing biotechnology products to identify the most promising
developments in the field. The fund is modality agnostic, investing in
biologics, small molecules, and vaccines. Created in 2002, with an initial seed
fund of $100 million and with two additional funds of $100 million each
allocated in 2005 and 2007, MedImmune Ventures invests up to $30 million per
company with an average investment of about $7 million.
With $300 million under management, MedImmune Ventures invests in early- to
late-stage, public or private biotechnology companies focused on discovering
and developing human therapeutics. We consider investments in areas strategic
to MedImmune and AstraZeneca, including cardiovascular/gastrointestinal
disease, neuroscience, oncology, infectious diseases, respiratory disease, and
inflammation.
