Community Relations

We seek to establish relationships with the organizations we support and we contribute directly to the communities in which our employees work and live. We look for associations with causes that are aligned with our areas of therapeutic focus and with the goal of advancing health and science education. We initiate programs, engage our employees in volunteer activities, and share our expertise to drive initiatives on a personal level. Our core value of cultivating a collaborative environment reminds us that teamwork and partnerships are essential to MedImmune's success. As an active and vital member of local communities, MedImmune drives this value beyond the walls of our labs, manufacturing facilities, and offices.

Fighting Flu

MedImmune is committed to reducing influenza in society by promoting annual flu vaccination and raising awareness of the seriousness of the disease. We award grants to Families Fighting Flu–United States-based, not-for-profit organization that raises awareness of the importance of vaccinating children to reduce the impact of flu in pediatric populations. To assist global efforts toward developing pandemic solutions, MedImmune has made its proprietary reverse genetics technology available to public and private entities that are working to develop other types of pandemic vaccines, prioritizing the subtypes based on current epidemiological research.

Advocacy

Through its advocacy group, MedImmune works with national and regional organizations to optimize health outcomes for premature infants and their families. We are committed to connecting families and their advocates to comprehensive information and supportive programs that assure quality care, continuity and integration of services, education, access and resources.

MedImmune seeks to act as an "engaged participant," and a dedicated corporate partner in issues related to prematurity, providing support for national organizations, while helping to connect concerned organizations on the local level.

Offering Support

Science Education Initiatives: MedImmune has links with over 20 UK universities and a number of European institutions. We offer internships and industrial placement to students and for 3 months of the year the company also invites students who are working on particular research projects at their universities that are funded by MedImmune.

Regional Science Fair Sponsorship: The MedImmune Advancing Science for Better Health Award is given at four United States science fairs to high school students whose projects have the greatest biological relevance to human disease.

March of Dimes: MedImmune is a national multiyear sponsor of the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program; a program that provides counseling to families with children in neonatal intensive care.

Zoë's Place: In the UK, MedImmune supports a local hospice called 'Zoë's Place' for babies and children up to the age of five who have life-limiting illnesses. Zoë's Place in Liverpool offers palliative respite and terminal care for children and its team of nurses provides 24-hour care in a home-away-from-home environment.

Ride for the Roses: At MedImmune's Nijmegen facility in the Netherlands, staff participates in the "Ride for the Roses" every year. This is a charity event that raises money for cancer research in the Netherlands.

Environment

Environmental sustainability is an integral part of MedImmune's business strategy. Wherever possible, our facilities embody best practice in terms of building design and functionality, and our established environmental policy is applied to all aspects of operations.

We emphasize the importance of employee engagement. Initiatives such as the Cambridge Environmental Committee, composed of management and staff volunteers, ensures we take an entrepreneurial approach to reducing our environmental footprint.
